Live streaming my pocket - 10k run

Here we are in mid-June and I am only getting in my 2nd run for the month.

While the kids had the week off from soccer, thus no sports, the evenings continued to be busy because I've got 10 days to get me, my son, my daughter, and partially my husband, packed and ready for our various adventures. My daughter needed to be mostly packed by Thursday night because her trunk and duffel bag were picked up today.

Wednesday morning was one of those many mornings where my stuff was laid out for a nice easy run and I really could have used it - I knew the day would be long and stressful and exciting (kids last day of school, 'Younger' premiere, Stanley Cup, starting packing for myself).

But I chose to lay in bed instead.

But I got in my 6.25 mile run this morning. With the kids done with school and my husband had the day off, I had no reason not to get my run in. I wanted to leave the weekend open since it is Father's Day so I chose to do my long run today. It has been almost a month since I've run more than 4 miles, but I decided to go the distance.

I'll tell you it wasn't pretty.

It was my first time using my new running vest . When I start my 1/2 Marathon training in November, I want to be able to drink both water and electrolytes and I saw this vest online that has 2 small bladders up front and then has space in the back for an additional normal bladder. Today I only used water.

The weather was 54 degrees and 95% humidity. I definitely felt the humidity on the trail which doesn't have a ton of air.

I don't know if it was the vest or my headphones but I was having serious technical difficulties with my music. It kept stopping and starting and pausing. And when I finished my run I found that I had 20 apps open (only the music was open when I started) and I was live streaming the inside of my pocket!

My time was not pretty - average of 13:40 minute miles. But I got it done!

I am hoping to get in 4 more runs before I leave, including another 6.25 miler. I am trying not to buy too many groceries which means we are eating weird things out of the pantry and freezer. I am trying to reduce my carbs  in the next 10 days as I feel like I am entering the second half of my cycle which means bloat city.

While we have zero plans this weekend, and are limited by what my son can do due to his 3 broken toe and his boot and crutches, and I've got a lot of packing to do (but have accomplished a ton this week so far), I hope not to eat the stress and happiness away. Lots and lots of water are on the agenda!

Busy weekend that ended with a beautiful hike

Thursday I woke up and did Upper Fix from the new 21 Day Fix Realtime.

I didn't get to run on Friday morning. Thursday night my daughter had a softball game and I didn't get home until 8:30 and ended up staying way too late binging "Younger" in preparation for the new season starting this Wednesday.

Friday and Saturday were just as busy with sport activities and packing for the kids camps.

Sunday me and my husband had a day date

As we were leaving bright and early the sprinkler was spraying over the poppies.

I am not used to hiking at this time of year and was pleasantly surprised to see all the blueberry bushes in bloom. Last year I did the same hike a month later and the blueberries were ripe. I did see a few bushes in another part of the trail with non-ripe berries on them.

The view was beautiful and the weather was perfect! I think this is now my favorite hike - the hike up is challenging in parts but also has some easier parts, and the view at the top is fantastic. The route down is pretty hairy (I would never want to go up that part!). Next time I want to hike during foliage season.

Two weeks and counting until camp and vacation. The kids are done with school on Wednesday. I wish I were done with work then! So much work to do before we can finally be off!

Hitting the trails

First run of June.
I didn't get my run in the this weekend. I was all prepped and ready to go on Sunday. Saturday my monthly finally arrived, 10 days late, without warning, with a vengence. Sunday morning I woke up to fog, 60 degrees, 99% humidity, and bad cramps (usually I like to run with cramps because they immediately disappear, though immediately reappear as soon as I am done running). I even got as far as getting up and eating 1/2 of my normal waffle PB&J sandwich. But I couldn't finish it - I felt nauseous. And finally after 20 minutes I realized the run wasn't going to happen and I went back to bed for 3 hours. Sometimes you just need to listen to your body.

I did get a lot of stuff done for the week and camp and vacation so it was a very productive day.

Monday I got up at 5:30 and did Total Body Cardio Fix of the new 21 Day Fix Real Time. I liked it - there were some things that were the same as previous and some new stuff.  Of the new stuff I liked some, didn't love some. But overall I'll stick with it because it is different.

I had planned on doing the Upper Fix on Tuesday but Monday my shoulder blade was killing me. I think I initially pulled something last week and then working out on Monday didn't help. I kept asking my family members to rub it and I was tempted to go get a massage, even though I hate massages. Needless to say I knew I needed the rest on Tuesday and by the end of Tuesday it was feeling almost 100%.

I've been rotating through 3 runs on Wednesdays - flat, hills, trail (with hills). Today was Reservoir/Trail day.

Instead of running all the way around it twice, I decided to still to the roads/non-single-trek portion. So close to vacation, I can't afford to mess up an ankle. I originally thought I'd only get in 3 miles but out and back twice ended up being 3.5 miles. The second set I did walk the bigger hills.

The weather was 60 degrees and relatively low humidity. But I was already missing my 45 degree running and wished the skies had been a little more exciting. But it was great to get out there. I won't be back before vacation and probably won't be back until who knows when - next Spring?! After vacation I really need to concentrate on 10K training road runs (I'll hit 6.25 miles before vacation but need to concentrate on road running after I get back).

Thursday I am hoping to do Upper Fix, Friday an easy run, and then Sunday a big hike (If I am brave enough). It will be our last hike before vacation (we've only ended up doing 2 hikes :(  ) I may chicken out and ended up doing a smaller one - Depends what the weekend brings.

And then the plan is to do 6.25 miles on Friday the 14th. The kids will be out of school and my husband has the day off so I won't need to rush back for anything (except I will need to work!) - That will leave Sunday open to do whatever my husband wants to on Father's Day. But I am jumping WAY ahead of myself. I need to get through this Wednesday. The days are dragging by lately. The kids have 1 week left of school and it can't come fast enough. But they've got a lot of sports to do this weekend and how their teams do will determine if they are done with the season or not. *fingers crossed*
