Weekly Weigh-in #18

Starting Weight (12/1/2012): 232.2
Last Week: 194.4
Current Weight: 192.8
Change Since Last Week: -1.6
Total Change: -39.4
Height: 5'6"
Goal: 149

Thank goodness this week is over. It has been quite a bad week eating wise. We've got this big project completing on Monday and as "incentive" our office has been chock full of chips and candy and catered lunches. With the stress of work, throw in PMS, and still cranky about the weather, I didn't hold back.

I was surprised the loss was what it was, though it was very inflated last week, because I am not going to WW this morning because I have a 4 mile race, so I had quite a bit of pasta for dinner, not my normal Friday night PB&J.

Last Sunday I did get out for another 5 mile run. I was definitely dragging more for that one. I am not sure why - Not enough sleep? Not enough water? Could have been a variety of things.

Today is 12 weeks until my obstacle race, so I tell myself it really is time to start actually training...ie doing more activity than 1 long run  week. So we'll see how next week goes!

Weekly Weigh-in #17

Starting Weight (12/1/2012): 232.2
Last Week: 192.8
Current Weight: 194.4
Change Since Last Week: +1.6
Total Change: -37.8
Height: 5'6"
Goal: 149

I am completely surprised, yet again, that the gain isn't higher. I've been working insane hours at work for a project due March 31st, so yesterday they brought in pizza for lunch and Chinese for dinner. But I am getting up and going to WW!!

Last week I did got for a 5 mile run instead of going to my meeting. Actually it was slightly over 5 miles as I wanted to get in a full 60 minutes!

And then the week, as expected, took a pretty big slide from there:

-Saturday night family party for my son: cheese, crackers and olives before dinner; wine and pastafor dinner; cupcakes, ice cream and chocolate sauce for dessert

-Sunday lunch time party at Chuck E Cheese: lots of pizza, piece of cake; "stress reliever" snack after the party of leftover pizza and cake; more cake and ice cream for dessert

--Monday - rest of cake and ice cream (and the rest got thrown away)

--Work was completely insane and they brought in tons of junk food (my client is a maker of junk food) and I just didn't have the resolve to resist

BUT on a good note, I did work out twice in the evening this week!

2 nights I got home at normal time and we finished dinner early and I was stressed and just didn't have it in me to do much, so 1 night went down and rode the bike for 45 minutes, and the second night, I wanted to get to 40 miles run this year, so I ran 2.2 miles on the treadmill!

Hoping for a better week, even with PMS coming up. We do have a party at a friend's house tomorrow afternoon, but it isn't until 1, so I can eat before and do really well. And since I've indulged so much this past week, I am not going to cave in during the weekend (even with Reeses peanut butter cups in the house!).

Weekly Weigh-in #16

Starting Weight (12/1/2012): 232.2
Last Week: 191.0
Current Weight: 192.8
Change Since Last Week: +1.8
Total Change: -39.4
Height: 5'6"
Goal: 149

I am actually pretty surprised that that gain is only 1.8, seeing that Friday morning the scale said 194.4.

I decided prior to dinner last night that I wasn't going to go to Weight Watchers this morning, because I wanted to try to fit in a run before I have to leave at 8:30. I am mad at myself for not getting in any exercise this week since the race on Sunday. I NEEDED it this week. It was just kind of a crappy week.
.
I am really beginning to think that I am more eating issues around ovulation time that PMS time. I was feeling bloated and cranky, which resulted in more eating. I left work early on Tuesday because I felt nauseous, so to get over that nausea I ate carbs like crazy, like I did when I had morning sickness (no, I am NOT pregnant :) ).

This coming week will have some challenges. My parents are coming over tonight to celebrate my son's 5th birthday. Then we have his party tomorrow at lunch. And I made enough cupcakes so we can still keep celebrating on his actual birthday on Monday.

But I am going to try to stay in control this week. A couple of cupcakes shouldn't undo the whole week.

My son turning 5 is bittersweet. I am definitely ready to be done with the daycare payments, but my little boy is going to Kindergarten in the fall. I registered him on Tuesday. And then the "sadness" that 5 years post-partum, I am still struggling with my weight. Sure I am under my pre-pregnancy weight. But the fact that 3 years ago I had hit the magical "I am not longer obese" number and 3 years later I am not back to that. But I can't dwell on that. I've just got to keep moving. Literally.

It has been "newbie" week for Runner's World this week and a lot of talk about how people started running to lose weight.. Which is kind of funny because I don't run to lose weight. I feel like I gain weight when I exercise more. I run because I love how it makes me feel. And yes, it makes my legs look better :)

So I wait here for there to be a little more daylight so I can head out for a run. It is supposed to be warm today, but only for today. This weather has been awful. Someday it will be spring (technically on Thursday) - I don't remember there being this much snow on the ground this late into March. Yes, we've had large March storms before (even last year), but they don't stick around. We are all so ready for spring!

5 mile race and Monday struggles

Saturday was spent inside with my sick son, trying to resist temptations. I did pretty well. Dinner was pre-race pasta and spiralized zucchini. I did have a Skinny Cow ice cream cone for dessert.

My son continued to be sick during the night - thankfully my husband took care of him. But I still didn't get much sleep. Thankfully the race wasn't until 1:00 so I slept in until 10!

Since my son was sick, my family couldn't come with me to the race as planned, so I was on my own again. Traffic was a nightmare getting there - they had closed the roads extra early. But I left with a lot of room to spare.

Walking back to my car from bib/shirt/metal pick up I was freezing so I elected to wear my hat and gloves. But walking in the sun to find the Port-a-Potties, I warmed up and regretted my decision but there wasn't time to go back to the car. So even before the race started I took them off and stuffed them in my shirt (my third boob I call it!).

The start of the race was slightly uphill - fun way to start! I just kept my head down. I knew I was running too fast to start. But I felt good the majority of the time. The more insecure I felt was more towards the end of the race when I could tell that after I passed a street that a cop was letting cars go which meant that no one was probably right behind me so I had visions of being the last person. But I wasn't :)

I finished 5 miles in 57:27. I just wanted to do it in under an hour so I was psyched. Like all of the 3 races, I finished about 830th out of 1000.

After the race I found the same woman I talked to before the race last week and we hung out for a while. She convinced me to sign up for a 4 mile race at the end of the month and I in turn convinced other people too.

I stopped by my normal "post-summer long run" gas station to fill up - I long to get back on the rail trail - though I am loving the practice of the hills too! I think I am going to continue on flat for my long runs and try to get 2 local runs in per week.

On the way home I was craving real pizza - we hadn't ordered out in months. I had 3 pieces and a ton of greek salad. The scale was way up Monday morning. But it was still up this morning :(  Need to get back into control.

Off to register my son for Kindergarten - how did that happen?!

Weekly Weigh-in #15

Starting Weight (12/1/2012): 232.2
Last Week: 192.0
Current Weight: 191.0
Change Since Last Week: -1.0
Total Change: -41.2
Height: 5'6"
Goal: 149

I'll take the loss! I thought that I would end up maintaining, so anything below 192 is wonderful!

The end of the week was definitely better than the first. I hated Monday where I had 3 mini-bags of chips at work. Wednesday I was home sick with my daughter and I managed to eat fairly well all day, though the bag of garlic croutons and bacon bits will calling my name as I was making the salad.

Yesterday a friend at work asked me if I wanted to go to lunch. We went to a place called Bocoloco, which has burritos and bowls. Like Fresh City, but with more choice. I chose a small (versus a mini, a regular or a large) on a whole wheat tortilla (versus white, or in a bowl). I got water to drink. I resisted the chips and the Nutella shake that was calling my name. Knowing weigh-in was in the morning helps! When I got back to work I looked up the nutrition on the site and saw that they already calculated the WW points! Mine was 11. My Lean Cuisine pizza I have is 10. Score!

I did my normal grocery shopping after having my PB&J dinner and feeding the kids. It is so empowering going on a Friday night and being all set for the weekends.

We will be having pasta again Saturday night to get ready for my 5 mile race on Sunday! I can't say I am not nervous for it, but I am ready to have it over with so I can get my bling and then really start training/getting in shape. I won't have another race until April 19 and that is a 5K with 10,000 people!!!

1 Year Run-niversary - 4 Mile Race

A year ago I started C25K again (I originally ran from September 2011 - January 2012, doing 3 5K races, but on Superbowl Sunday 2012 I stopped running because we were selling and moving and took an unexpected 13 months off).

A year later I am 33 lbs lighter and ran my first non-5K race.

Saturday I drove up to drive the course, and realized that it was during the time where I could pick up my bib (and t-shirt and medal - the first time getting a medal before the race - I will admit there was a a tiny, tiny part of me thinking that 'why run the race when I already have the medal'). I found the big hill I had read about on-line and had a mental plan to conquer it. I have never walked during a race and didn't plan on it this time either.

I got to the race way early - Parking was easier than expected. So hung out in the car for a while as it was chilly (about 34) and then warmed up out of the car. I started talking to a women while walking to the starting line, but then we got separated - I wish I had found her at the end because she could have made a good running buddy.

I completed the 4 miles (actually it was 4.14) in 46:18. I didn't walk. Granted I very slowly jogged up the large steep hill, but didn't walk! I felt really good about myself. The only "bad" part of the race was I started bolting where I thought was the end, but they made us run all the way around the block and come in the finish line from the other side.

I am definitely intimidated by the 5 miles coming up this weekend. But looking forward to it. Racing is definitely addictive.

Today I sign up for my first Disney race in November.

These are the races I have coming up:

March 9 - Hynes Tavern 5 Miler

April 19 - BAA 5K

April 27 - Wilmington 5K

May 31 - Color Me Rad (Color Run) with Ellie

June 7 - Runner's World Heartbreak Hill 10K

June 21 - Foam Fest (obstacle race)

July 4 - 4th of July 2 Miler

September 6 - Diva Dash (obstacle race)

September 21/28 - Wilmington 5K (or could I make the 1/2???!!)

November 8 - Disney 5K

But now I need to start working out more and that means getting up early and working out. I was really hoping to do it this week before Daylight Savings starts, but it is still so incredibly cold it is hard to drag myself out. And this week my calves were really tight after the big hill. But soon!

Weekly Weigh-in #14

Starting Weight (12/1/2012): 232.2
Last Week: 195.8
Current Weight: 192.0
Change Since Last Week: -3.8
Total Change: -40.2
Height: 5'6"
Goal: 149

Dancing for joy! I needed this week so badly to get out of the rut I had been in for 3 months. No, I can no sustain a week like this for very long - I did everything perfectly and really didn't touch my extra points at all. I am going to TRY to have the same kind of week for the next week as my goal is to get to 190.6 because that is the 1/2 way point between 232.2 (starting) and 149 (my initial goal). But unlike last week I am going to have healthy plate of pasta tonight for dinner to fuel for the race in the morning!
